Canon teamed with up film director Ron Howard to launch Project Imagin8ion, a photo content designed to inspire a Hollywood short film. Howard choose 8 photos with which to set the stage for the production of “When You Find Me.” We received nearly 100,000 submissions. The final film screened at Sundance, SXSW, and Tribeca film festival and became the first user generated film to be nominated for an Oscar in the short film category.
Following Project Imagin8ion's huge success, Canon and Ron Howard teamed up again for Project Imaginat10n, another film festival inspired by users' photos. This time, we invited five celebrities from various fields - Jamie Foxx, Eva Longoria, Biz Stone, James Murphy and Georgina Chapman- to direct films inspired by user submitted photos. We also had a contest for non-celeb film enthusiasts and gave them an equal chance to debut as a filmmaker. We started with a photo contest. More than 70,000 photos were submitted under 10 different themes. Then each of our celebrities and non-celeb filmmakers chose 10 photos and created a film inspired them. Ron Howard carefully chose top 5 films from the film contest and we celebrated the 10 final films with a grand premiere held in NYC.
